I quite often get asked which apps we use at school and I have often published lists of apps related to different curriculum areas (see previous posts).

Commonsense Media, recognising there was a real need to help parents and educators filter through the 1000’s of apps that are out there, have developed a tool called Graphite which rates applications intended for educational purposes.  It is based out of the US so some of the applications relate to the ‘Common Core” but there are still 100’s of apps rated that you may find useful.

The website is or you can access the website by clicking HERE.  Once at he site, click on the tab (located at the top left had corner) called “Reviews and Ratings’ and then simply collect the curriculum area, grade etc you are most interested in (see screenshot below).

I shared the ‘place value house’ approach to teaching place value at the Maths workshops and a number of parents have asked that I make it available.

Please click HERE to download the pdf file of the Place Value Houses.  Remember the order of the houses is very important (Trend Setter House, Thousands House, Millions House, Billions House and finally Trillions House – from right to left)

Please click on the link below to download the Year 5/6 Maths parent workshop presentation.  Again we had a terrific turn out of parents with over 40 parents listening to Mr Tobin and myself talking about the written, taught and assessed curriculum.  The parents then had the chance to go into the Year 5 and 6 classrooms to see the children working.

We had over 45 parents attend the Maths workshop this morning and the children certainly enjoyed showing their parents the maths they are currently completing in class.

As promised here is the presentation both Mr Evans and myself used this morning during the session in the library.

Please appreciate the Year 5 & 6 presentation tomorrow and Year 3 & 4 presentation on Thursday will be similar to the presentation today. The only difference will be in the middle section of the presentation where the examples (The HOW) will be different.  Obviously the classroom visits will be different as well!

Please find below a link to the presentation used by Chiqui Colet at the Introduction to PYP parent workshop that was run on the 18th of September.

We had over 30 parents in attendance which was great to see.  If you were unable to attend or attended but wanted a copy of the presentation please click the link below.

Anna Trunkfield and Cathy Boon presented to both parents (am) and to domestic helpers (pm) on THursday 11 September on the topic of reading and writing.
